How does TIYH select the right tutor for our families?

Your local director will ask you for your available days and times, your desired location (home, library, office), and specific information regarding the academic subject(s) of interest. We will carefully select a tutor for your family based on the profile you have provided and have that tutor contact you within 48 hours of your call. If at any time during the tutoring relationship you believe you would be best served by another one of our tutors, we will promptly act on your request.

What happens if I would need to change our tutoring schedule?

We employ a 48-hour cancellation policy, which allows all our families to reschedule their appointments with their tutors. If your tutor would not be able to accommodate a change in schedule, we would connect you with another tutor immediately.

How long of a time commitment is required?

Our families pay by the month, which means they commit by the month. We do not require a long-term time agreement. We only ask that our families provide 30 days notice before discontinuing lessons.

What are your tutors’ qualifications?

TIYH tutors are experienced educators, mentors, and professionals who work in such fields as education, engineering, business and research. The majority of our tutors have advanced degrees (Bachelor’s, Master’s or higher) and work in their respective fields. We are privileged to work with some who have outstanding credentials as upperclassmen and recognize that there are outstanding educators working in a variety of fields. We search year-round for the best local talent and hold our applicants to very high standards. If we would not want an applicant tutoring our children, they will not be tutoring yours either.

My child doesn’t want to learn from me! Have I done something wrong?

No! We field calls daily from parents who have the ability to tutor their children but meet resistance when they try to help. Often times, a child responds well to a more “neutral” figure when it comes to tutoring. You can rest assured, this is normal!

How can I register for tutoring?

Click here to submit your information. We will contact you as soon as possible to discuss your tutoring needs. Even if you would like to reserve tutoring for the future, we strongly encourage you to register early, as primetime slots can fill quickly, especially in the fall and in January. We will connect you with a tutor so that you can reserve the best time that works for you and your family.
